It is quite normal that with the passage of time the furniture of the house will wear and ruin. One of the furniture that more often notice said passage of the years are the chairs mainly because of the great use that is given to them throughout the day. If it is your case and you have some other chair in the house a bit worn do not worry because with a few simple steps you can upholster it and leave it totally like new.
Tools you will need
- Measuring tape
- Stapler and staples
- Elastic straps
- Upholstery fabric
Fasten the straps to the frame of the chair
If you follow these steps you will be able to upholster the chair you want and be able to have it back in perfect condition. Firstly you have to place four elastic straps on the top of the chair frame. Then one end is stapled with six staples, the strap is tightened as much as possible and the other end is stapled with six other staples. You should keep in mind that each strap must be stretched 10% of what it measures to fit perfectly. Then you must cover the straps with a cloth the same size as the frame with the help of the stapler. To prevent the burlap from fraying it is important to fold the fabric out at least 2 centimeters. The burlap must be tense since the purpose of it is none other than to protect the foam filling of the chair.
To tighten it, you must start by placing a clip in the center of one side, stretch the fabric and put another clip on the other side of the chair. Then you should put a clip in the middle of the third side and another in the center of the opposite side. Make sure the burlap is tight and keeps staples on the sides. In case the chair has a board instead of a rack you should skip this step and start on the next.
Prepare the seat
Now it's the turn to prepare the seat so the first thing you should do is pick up a cutter and trim the outer foam. The normal thing is to cut the same size of the frame plus a 3 0 4 cm more so you do not have problems when filling the seat. The following foam layers should be smaller than the first. In principle usually 3 layers of 30, 20 and 10 mm each are sufficient. Then you should take some glue and glue the layers of foam to get a compact filling. Place the foam on the frame and secure it with the aid of the stapler.
Place the fabric on the chair
Once the fill is well placed in the frame, it is the turn to place the fabric in the chair to finish upholstering the same. Once you have the fabric with which you are going to upholster, you must cut a square plus a 10 cm more to cover the seat without any problem. Then you should center the fabric as best as possible and staple it on the frame. The next steps are to tighten the corner of the fabric and staple to the frame and make two folds that are on the diagonal. All that is left is to cover the bottom of the seat with another cloth that matches the main. To do this place the fabric with a margin of a pair of cm and fix it with the help of staples. You already have the chair perfectly upholstered and as new so you can put it in the part of the house that you want.
As you can see, upholstering a chair is not something simple and requires following these steps that I have explained to get to enjoy a new chair fully upholstered. Remember that when it comes to upholstering it is advisable to opt for a fabric that is good and that will withstand well the continued use and the passage of the years. Fabrics made from natural fibers are much more pleasant to the touch than synthetic fabrics. In addition, they do not accumulate any static electricity and are much more resistant to burns, so it is much more advisable to opt for the aforementioned synthetic fabrics.
Anyway if you see it too difficult and complicated for you, it is advisable that you go to a professional who can help you upholster the chair of your house that you want to renew and leave it again as new. Do not hesitate to upholster the different furniture of your house that you see unloaded, as it is very worthwhile when getting them to decorate the different areas of your home.
